What is Millie’s Mark?
Millie’s Mark is a special accreditation given to nurseries that exceed the minimum Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements for first aid. While EYFS guidelines state that nurseries must have at least one member of staff with a current paediatric first aid certificate on the premises or during outings, Millie’s Mark is awarded to settings where all staff who work with children are trained in paediatric first aid.
The process of achieving Millie’s Mark is thorough. It takes three to six months and involves intensive support from an NDNA mentor, completion of an audit, risk assessments, and spot checks. Nurseries awarded this endorsement also have well-deployed first aid procedures and exemplary practice, ensuring that safety is at the heart of everything they do.
